SaraMarie Bottaro
Acrylic, ink, watercolor, and graphite on archival translucent yupo
11" H x 14" W
2022

Somerville artist SaraMarie Bottaro works primarily in ink and acrylic to create her lyrical abstract pieces. Her art explores stories of the sacred feminine in the Ancient Mediterranean. Bottaro received her BFA in Studio Art from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston concurrently with her BA in Peace and Justice Studies from Tufts University.
To date, Bottaro has shared her artwork with the public in two solo shows and nearly 20 group exhibitions. Her work is represented in numerous private collections internationally and that of the Tufts University Chaplaincy. Bottaro is co-founder with incarcerated poet Spoon Jackson of Rabbits of Realness, a publishing project that instigates mutual flourishing through creative self-expression.
SaraMarie has always been fascinated with mythology, which has led her to immerse herself in earth-based spiritual practices, folk magic, divination methods, and the many symbols therein. Stories and their symbols are integral to her artistic practice. Her current work comes from connecting with her Sicilian heritage through research, language-learning, pilgrimage, dance, and traditional frame drumming.
