Let's make Zines! Zines are a form of DIY publishing and a great way to share interests, community messages, or make original mini-books. They also provide an easy and efficient way to provide information to many people, and generally easy to make many copies with a copy machine. Start with a blank 8.5x11" piece of paper, and the possibilities are endless!
We highly recommend that workshop participants bring materials to collage with for the workshop. Participants will study a variety of zines, learn basic zine-making techniques, including the basic 8-page zine and pamphlet style.

Explore the magic of sun printing during this one-day, outdoor cyanotype workshop for families! The workshop will begin by foraging for plant materials to print with at Monmouth Park, but you can also bring specific objects from home that you'd like to print with. In the second part of the workshop, students will arrange their objects on light-sensitive paper and expose their compositions to the sun, creating beautiful cyan blue prints.

This is a workshop series designed for elders to work with clay in a creative, social environment. You can create unique clay objects with step-by-step instruction and demonstrations of handbuilding techniques. Those who are looking to build a creative community, while learning a new skill are encouraged to take this workshop series. Through this series, the BAC aims to offer intergenerational programming for people at every stage of their lives, making art accessible and fun no matter which stage you’re at.
As working with clay can be physically demanding, we recommend that participants are able bodied and can lift about 10lbs. If you have any questions about this, please email us at office@brooklineartscenter.com. All artworks will be available for pick up 6-8 weeks after class.

Ever find something that you’d love to transform into jewelry, but you’re unsure of just how to set it? In this course we will work to set the peskiest of unusual shapes and found objects. We will discuss the best tools for these techniques, as well as useful methods for altering objects in order to be able to use them. Students are encouraged to bring their own found objects to class that they are interested in using and may have questions about the best techniques to do so, but various found objects and materials will also be provided. Brass and copper will be included in the class fee, but if students would prefer to work in sterling silver, they can purchase it directly from the instructor during class.

Explore the basics of DSLR photography while capturing the charm of Brookline through a guided neighborhood photowalk. This beginner-friendly workshop introduces students to essential camera functions including aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focus, and composition, with an emphasis on shooting confidently outside of auto mode. This 3-Day outdoor workshop takes place outside the center where students will draw trees directly from observation and engage with nature firsthand. Working on location in Monmouth Park and the Longwood Mall, students will develop their observational and technical drawing skills by studying tree structure, proportion, texture, light, and atmosphere. Emphasis will be placed on understanding how to compose trees as the central focus within a natural environment. Using charcoal as the primary medium, students will also learn how to control the material’s natural messiness—developing the precision and sensitivity needed to create refined, detailed, and expressive drawings.

Private Lessons
One-on-one Lessons and Group Lessons are offered by the BAC faculty for all ages with pricing ranging between $75–$150 per hour.

Financial Aid
The BAC believes the arts should be accessible to all! Tuition assistance (or financial aid) for full season classes, intensives, and workshops is available for all individuals and families throughout the year. Click here to be redirected to our financial aid form.
Please do not register for a class you wish to apply financial assistance for, the BAC will assist you with your registration process if your application has been accepted.
Tuition assistance requests will not be fulfilled until 1-2 weeks before the start date of the requested class. Tuition Assistance requests can be fullfilled up to 2 weeks after the start date of the session if space permits. Until then, we ask for your patience while we work to place students in their requested classes. Scholarships for Ceramics & Jewelry are granted per individual once per fiscal year (September – August). Financial Aid does not apply to private lessons.
We are, additionally, proud to partner with the Mass Cultural Council's Card to Culture program – in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector to allow participants to identify the amount they can contribute towards class tuition
