Curious about wheelthrowing? Create unique clay objects in this introduction to wheelthrowing & handbuilding night. In this one-day workshop, your instructor will provide you with step-by-step instruction and demonstrate a variety of wheelthrowing and/or handbuilding techniques and fundamentals. You will have the chance to decorate your work with underglaze, and can choose one glaze for each of their pieces!

All artworks will be available for pick up 4-6 weeks after class. You will be contacted when your pieces are ready to be picked up. No previous ceramic knowledge is required.
Leaf Earrings & Pendants

Time to turn over a new leaf? Make a leaf form out of metal and turn that leaf over many times. This is the workshop for you if you are intrigued with the idea of learning to create an organic form, and are interested in gaining experience working with metal that is both exciting, challenging, and rewarding. You will be introduced to and practice basic soldering and annealing, use copper and various hand tools, and learn and practice basic good workshop practices. Make earrings, a pendant, or the start of something more. Beginner or intermediate, novice or experienced, this will meet you right where you are.

Looking for a clay experience that is leisurely and meditative? This coil building workshop focuses on creating forms by hand that can range from functional to sculptural, and from representational to abstract. We will explore a range of techniques to incorporate organic textures and shapes into your pieces! This workshop is ideal for those who are interested in expanding their ceramics outside of the wheel, and all levels of experience are welcome.

Always thought about making comics, but don't know where to start? In this fun, fast-paced, low-stakes workshop, illustrator, artist, and cartoonist Zoe Schein will get you over the hump of putting pencil to paper and guide you through exercises to help you identify and embrace your own personal comics style. Whether your ultimate goal is the Great American Graphic Novel or just making your friends laugh, this workshop will leave you excited and inspired to put your comics onto paper - and into the world.

Intro to Papermaking

Hands-on class that explores papermaking using unconventional materials like plant fibers, and found objects. You'll learn how to craft your own unique pieces that challenge the traditional boundaries of papermaking. Open to all levels of experience this class emphasizes creativity, process and innovation.

Hoop Earrings

Learn ways to cut, shape, file and solder to make beautiful hoop earrings. This is the time for you to design and own your circle, hoop, oval, square, hexagon, etc. You will be introduced to copper and practice basic soldering and annealing, use a variety of hand tools and learn and practice basic good workshop practices. Make earrings, a pendant, a ring or something else, the options are endless! Beginner or intermediate, novice or experienced, this will meet you right where you are.

Saltwater Etching
Ages: 16+

Learn how to create designs on metal surfaces by using a solution of saltwater and electricity to corrode the metal, essentially "etching" a pattern into it. Students will create their own designs on the metal using a resist material, then immerse the piece in a saltwater solution while applying an electrical current to selectively corrode the exposed areas. This method is considered relatively accessible and safer than traditional chemical etching techniques, allowing you to experiment with designs on various metals like copper and brass without harsh chemicals involved. Each student will go home with their own saltwater bath and 6v battery.

This workshop will provide guided instruction on how to make stackable rings. You will learn to craft trendy, elegant rings meant to mix and match. This workshop includes aspects of metalworking, such as soldering, hammering, cutting metal, filing, and polishing.

Spinner, fidget and anxiety rings are all the rage. Learn basic metalsmithing techninques such as soldering, sawing, forming, texturing and polishing to create your very own spinner ring. Students will work with copper, silver and brass.

Join us in exploring the curious world of the human form in our Figure Drawing Studio. This is an open studio format with no instruction provided. We will start with quick warm-ups and short poses and then move into a long pose for the last hour.

We encourage artists who join to explore the use of different materials, drawing styles, and techniques (dry media only, please). Participants must bring their own materials. A studio monitor will be present and no instruction will be provided. Advanced registration is preferred but not required.

Draw Like A Pro in a Day

Draw what you see and see what you draw! In this introductory-level workshop, students will learn the essentials of drawing techniques – specifically drawing from observation and reality. Using graphite to its fullest extent, students will learn simple, effective strategies for observing and drawing that can be carried into any kind of visual art.

Printmaking Workshop

Join us for a unique printmaking experience as we explore Monotype, a technique that never produces two of the same print. In this workshop, you will create a series of your own prints! The teacher will provide step-by-step instructions and demos for carved rubber stamp making and using the stamps to create prints. All levels of art experience are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This workshop will provide students an introduction to working with color in 2D images. Students will experiment with color and tone through brief, guided exercises that demonstrate color relationships, explore the use of color in creating mood and atmosphere, and leave the workshop with a fully colored drawing of their own!

Information

The BAC believes the arts should be accessible to all! Tuition assistance (or financial aid) for classes and workshops is available for all individuals and families throughout the year. Click here to be redirected to our financial aid form.

Please do not register for a class you wish to apply financial assistance for, the BAC will assist you with your registration process if your application has been accepted.

Tuition assistance requests will not be fulfilled until the week of December 16 - 20.
Tuition Assistance requests can be fullfilled up to 2 weeks after the start date of the session if space permits. Until then, we ask for your patience while we work to place students in their requested classes. Scholarships for Ceramics & Jewelry are granted per individual once per fiscal year (September – August). Financial Aid does not apply to private lessons or workshops.

We are, additionally, proud to partner with the Mass Cultural Council's Card to Culture program – in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector to allow participants to identify the amount they can contribute towards class tuition.
