Kids & Teens Classes
  Explore your creativity this Fall at the Brookline Arts Center! With classes in drawing, painting, comics, fiber arts and more, kids ages 5–17 can explore their imagination in an engaging, inclusive, and vibrant space. 

For full session classes (10 Sessions), registration remains open until the third class meeting. Missed classes are not eligible for refunds or prorated tuition. For Intensive classes (5 Sessions), registration remains open until the second class meeting. 

We offer private lessons and financial aid to accommodate anyone who wishes to take a class. For questions about our policies or for more information, reach out to us at office@brooklineartscenter.com. Missed classes are not eligible for refunds or prorated tuition.



Mondays

Intro to Ceramics
Ages: 5–7
Instructor: Katie McColgan (she/her)
Dates: Mon, Sept 28–Dec 7 (10 sessions)
Time: 3:30–5:30pm

Class Fee: $480  Materials: $55


Spend the Fall exploring the wonderful world of clay and all of its sculptural possibilities. Students will learn a range of hand-building techniques including coil building, double pinch pot construction, and slab mug sculpting, and discover how these methods can be used to create both functional and imaginative forms. Through guided demonstrations and plenty of creative freedom, kids will experiment with shape, texture, and surface design as they bring their ideas to life. Exclusion Date Oct 12.

Teen Drawing & Illustration
Ages: 12–17

Dates: Mon, Sept 28–Dec 7 (10 sessions)

Class Fee: $460


Artists begin this course learning drawing fundamentals like shading, proportion, negative space, composition development, and strategies for drawing from life and reference. Then, we’ll apply those skills to their own compositions and personal styles in exciting projects of their choice, including: pen-and-ink drawing, portraiture, comics illustration, character design, and more! Tween Pottery & Wheelthrowing
Ages: 11–13

In this hands-on pottery program, students will be introduced to a combination of wheel throwing and hand building fundamentals. Your tween will create beautiful works of art that are both fun and functional through the tactile world of ceramics! Exclusion Date Nov 3.

Making Comics
Ages: 8–12

Dive into the comic-making process from beginning to end: character building, crafting expressions and poses, selecting shots, inking and color, and more. This class combines projects, games, silly warmups, and practice exercises to help young cartoonists find their comic voices, and use them. Exclusion Date Nov 3.

All You Can Art Buffet

Come explore the world of ceramics! This 5 week intensive is perfect for people who are curious about working with clay or want to get more experience. We'll cover the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel, trimming, and glazing our pots, and students will walk away with a beautiful piece of art that they can use in their everyday life. Exclusion Date Nov 27.

Please expect 6-8 weeks after your session to receive all of your fired work. A team member will contact you when your work is ready to pick up.

Teen Jewelry & Metalsmithing

Make beautiful jewelry with instruction from a working artist who will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry in copper and brass. If you are interested in exploring the art of crochet, or you are looking for a place to push your skills froward l, then this class is for you! Learn how to make and follow patterns, as well as take on different projects from clothing to stuffed animals. Freshen your skills and learn entirely new ones in this full session course. Wonderful Little Hands
Ages: 2–4 + Parent

Spend time with your little one while creating beautiful moments together in this multimedia class! Parents and caretakers will join their children in a variety of projects designed for little hands, including painting, stamping, clay, string painting, and much more. From fine motor skills to hand-eye coordination, your child with have as much fun learning as they do making art.

If you plan to attend with 2 caregivers and/or 2 children, please select the second class fee option of $200. This also applies if 2 caregivers attend with 1 child. The first class fee option of $173 only applies to 1 caregiver and 1 child.

Information

Private Lessons   One-on-one Lessons and Group Lessons are offered by the BAC faculty for all ages with pricing ranging between $75–$150 per hour. Click here for more information.  

Financial Aid  


The BAC believes the arts should be accessible to all! Tuition assistance (or financial aid) for full season classes, intensives, and workshops is available for all individuals and families throughout the year. Click here to be redirected to our financial aid form.

Please do not register for a class you wish to apply financial assistance for, the BAC will assist you with your registration process if your application has been accepted.

Tuition assistance requests will not be fulfilled until 1-2 weeks before the start date of the requested class.
Tuition Assistance requests can be fullfilled up to 2 weeks after the start date of the session if space permits. Until then, we ask for your patience while we work to place students in their requested classes. Scholarships for Ceramics & Jewelry are granted per individual once per fiscal year (September – August). Financial Aid does not apply to private lessons. 

We are, additionally, proud to partner with the Mass Cultural Council's Card to Culture program – in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector to allow participants to identify the amount they can contribute towards class
