Art Instructor for Adult Learners on Autism Spectrum

 
Description

If you are a teacher who is passionate about special education and bringing the arts into our community, then we would love to hear from you! We are looking for an instructor for the Winter and Spring 2025 season to teach our Art + Autism program, designed for young adults, ages 18-22, with autism spectrum disorder or related disabilities. Students in this program are enrolled from Brookline Public Schools. Each week students ages 18-22 will explore different wet media such as water-based paints and inks, collage, and ceramics. As the class continues, students will use their new familiarity with these mediums to create mixed-media illustrations, collagraph prints, marbled paper, and more. This class is designed to allow each student to progress and practice at their own pace with a curriculum designed for each student’s unique learning style.Once hired, selected teachers can propose new classes for future sessions. Opportunities will be available to teach both on-site at the Brookline Arts Center and off-site courses in Brookline Public Schools.
Part-Time:  2.5 hours a week (Class runs 8-10 weeks long each season, excluding Summer)
Starting Pay: $26.25/hr
Teachers are compensated for curriculum prep time, studio prep, and cleanup.



Qualifications

  • Prior experience with adult learners or individuals with autism
  • Desire to support individuals at all levels as they explore art and learn new skills
  • Ability to collaborate with aids and teachers from partner schools
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of general safety rules and basic first aid.
  • Professional and patient.
  • Knowledge of art materials and general care of studio space.
  • Masters or current study in Art Therapy, Psychology or Child Life programs preferred
